Application of the mask

Sometimes we need to wear the mask. At uni I used to quote JR speaking of Sue-Ellen, "You're a drunk, a tramp and an unfit mother" - and I could hide behind that.

In Sex and the city, when Charlotte loses her baby she takes inspiration from Elizabeth Taylor and dons the Taylor-mask complete with semi-beehive and pink 50s dress.

So right now, I have to ask myself, What would Alexis Morrel Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan do?

That SATC episode has inspired me a lot. Whenever I feel at my lowest I always make a big point of dressing with heels etc to make myself feel better, and I always think of Charlotte when I do.

The question is: Why do we sometimes need to wear a mask?

Because looking outwardly confident helps boost your inner confidence. If you went out in old jogging bottoms and a holey t-shirt you'd feel and act like a sack of poo. It works the same in reverse.

But for me it's not solely about the clothes. I take on the persona too.

Yeah, that's what it's about. I've got heels on today and I'm walking differently- more confidently. If I wear flats I act a bit differently. It's the same with everyone.

Couldn't agree more. If I wear my heels and best clothes to work, I walk, feel, act way more 'sexier' and confident than if I just wore flat shoes and a hoodie..

You must work in a civilised environment. I work with male engineers - ubergeeks if you will. If I go to work in a skirt there's a real danger I'll be wanked over! ;-)

Hello. very interesting. i also agree with wearing the mask. It is not only about the heels, as long as it gives us more confidence and good mood, i'll wear the mask.
